IELTS Writing: Phần Introduction (Giới thiệu) của Writing Task 2

Phần Introduction (Giới thiệu/Mở bài) là phần đầu tiên của bài IELTS Writing Task 2, tạo ấn tượng cho giám khảo về những lập luận mà họ mong đợi sẽ có trong phần còn lại của bài viết. Phần Introduction của một bài viết IELTS Writing Task 2 nên có ba câu chính, là:

• Câu diễn giải (Paraphrase Sentence)
• Câu lập luận (Thesis statement)
• Câu phác thảo (Outlining statement)

Hãy cùng xem qua và phân tích một ví dụ về phần Introduction của IELTS Writing Task 2:

Question: There is a good deal of evidence that increasing car use is contributing to global warming and having other undesirable effects on people’s health and well-being.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Good Introduction

Rising global temperatures and human health and fitness issues are often viewed as being caused by the expanding use of automobiles. This essay agrees that increasing use of motor vehicles is contributing to rising global temperatures and certain health issues. Firstly, this essay will discuss the production of greenhouse gases by vehicles and secondly, it will discuss other toxic chemicals released by internal combustion engines.

Bad Introduction

Nowadays, cars are a very popular way of getting around. Day by day many more people drive cars around but others feel that they cause global warming. Global warming is one of the most serious issues in modern life. They also affect people’s health and well-being which is also a serious issue -> nói về chủ đề chung chung, sao chép từ và cụm từ trong câu hỏi, không bao gồm câu lập luận hoặc câu phác thảo nội dung bài viết

• Câu diễn giải (Paraphrase Sentence)

Paraphrasing (diễn giải) có nghĩa là nêu câu hỏi một lần nữa, nhưng với những từ khác nhau để nó có cùng ý nghĩa (bạn có thể sử dụng Synonyms) đồng thời bạn có thể thay đổi thứ tự các câu.

Question: There is a good deal of evidence that increasing car use is contributing to global warming and having other undesirable effects on people’s health and well-being.

Paraphrase: Rising global temperatures and human health and fitness issues are often viewed as being caused by the expanding use of automobiles.

Các từ đồng nghĩa được sử dụng:

• Increasing – expanding
• Car use – use of automobiles
• Global warming – rising global temperatures
• People’s health and well-being – human health and fitness

Các thứ tự trong câu hỏi được thay đổi nhưng vẫn giữ đúng ý cần được trả lời nêu ra trong câu hỏi. Qua cách diễn giải trên, bạn cho giám khảo biết rằng bạn biết cách diễn giải câu và có vốn từ vựng rộng qua cách sử dụng từ đồng nghĩa.

• Câu lập luận (Thesis statement)

Đây là câu quan trọng nhất trong bài viết của bạn. Đây là câu nói lên ý chính của bạn cảm thấy thế nào về vấn đề được cho, gói gọn trong một câu. Câu lập luận cho giám khảo thấy rằng bạn đã hiểu câu hỏi và sẽ có thể đưa ra một bài luận rõ ràng và mạch lạc.

Hãy xem câu luận án từ ví dụ trước:

Thesis statement: This essay agrees that increasing use of motor vehicles is contributing to rising global temperatures and certain health issues.

Một số mẫu câu lập luận cho yêu cầu đề khác trong IELTS Writing Task 2:

• This essay agrees that….. or this essay disagrees that….. (Opinion essays)
• The main cause(s) of this issue is….. (Causes and solutions)
• The principal advantage(s) is (xxxxx) and the main disadvantage is (xxxxxx). (Advantage and disadvantages).
• Discussion (of two points of view): hãy nêu cả hai quan điểm rõ ràng.

Thesis statement rất quan trọng nhưng chỉ khi câu đề bài hỏi ý kiến của bạn. Một số câu hỏi IELTS không hỏi bạn ý kiến của bạn và trong những trường hợp này bạn có thể bỏ Thesis statement.

• Câu phác thảo ý chính (Outlining statement)

Bạn đã đưa ra ý kiến của mình với giám khảo qua câu lập luận, bây giờ bạn sẽ cho giám khảo biết những gì bạn sẽ đề cập trong đoạn văn chính. Nói cách khác, bạn sẽ phác thảo những gì giám khảo sẽ đọc trong phần còn lại của bài viết.

Question: There is a good deal of evidence that increasing car use is contributing to global warming and having other undesirable effects on people’s health and well-being.

Outline statement: Firstly, this essay will discuss the production of greenhouse gases by vehicles and secondly, it will discuss other toxic chemicals released by internal combustion engines.

-> Main body paragraph 1- production of greenhouse gases by cars.

-> Main body paragraph 2- toxic chemical produced by car engines

Như ví dụ trên, phác thảo ra hai ý chính tương ứng với hai đoạn thân bài chính. Trong bài viết của bạn, bạn chỉ nên có một ý chính cho một phần thân bài và bạn sẽ dễ dàng viết được câu phác thảo ý chính đó, dẫn nhập từ mở bài qua thân bài. Ví dụ một số mẫu câu cho các đề yêu cầu khác:

• Advantages and disadvantages: this essay will first discuss the (main advantage(s)) followed by an analysis of the (main disadvantage(s)).
• Problem and Solution: This essay will analyse the principal problem(s) and offer solutions to this issue.

Tổng kết, ví dụ cuối cùng được viết theo thứ tự trên:

Question: Learning to manage money is one of the key aspects to adult life. How in your view can individuals best learn to manage their money?

Good answer: One of the keys to adulthood is appreciating how to budget your finances. It is clear that the best way someone can learn this, is by managing money during childhood. Firstly, the essay will discuss the importance of parental involvement during childhood and secondly, the essay will look at the importance of having a part time job during childhood.
