Chủ ngữ giả trong IELTS Writing: sử dụng hiệu quả giúp ghi điểm cao

Chủ ngữ giả trong IELTS Writing là một trong những văn phạm cần phải biết. Hai chủ từ giả phổ biến It/There, sử dụng để nhấn mạnh chủ ngữ thật (hành động/sự việc) trong câu.

Một số cấu trúc với Chủ ngữ giả It/There sử dụng trong IELTS Writing:

Chủ ngữ giả IT:

It is + Adj + for somebody + to do something.

Ex:

• It is quite challenging for governments to control the rate of unemployment
• It is reasonable to ban them from travelling on the street to prevent them from breaking the law and causing accidents.
• It is easier for a young couple to travel when they do not have a baby to nurture

It is + Adj + that/when/if + S (+ should) + V

Ex:

• It is advisable that these environmental issues should be  managed on an international scale.
• It is more disadvantageous when all offenders are forced to go to jail

Mệnh đề bắt đầu bằng that được dùng như danh từ và đóng vai trò chủ ngữ trong câu, chúng ta có thể chuyển mệnh đề này ra sau và dùng chủ ngữ giả it ở vị trí đầu câu

• It is obvious that we are living in an information age. (= That we are living in an information age is obvious.)
• It is obvious that investing in education is investing in one’s future.
• It is obvious that human activities have the greatest impact on the environment.

It + be/seem + a + noun + noun clause

*“It” còn được sử dụng như chủ ngữ rỗng (Empty subject): không có nghĩa thực khi sử dụng để diễn tả thời gian, thời tiết, nhiệt độ và khoảng cách.

It’s six o’clock. /It’s Monday. /It’s rained for two days. /It’s three miles from here to my home.

Chủ ngữ giả There

Với số (number) hoặc số lượng (quantity)

• There are several reasons why saving minority languages could be seen as a waste of money.
• There are four stages in the process . . .

Để giới thiệu một chủ đề mới

• There is always an opposite side of the coin
• There are strong arguments from both sides

Để nói về một cái gì đó, ở đâu

• There are many works of art in public spaces, such as streets or squares in city centres.

Lưu ý: động từ to be đi sau there được chia theo danh từ phía sau nó, cụ thể là nếu danh từ theo sau ở số ít, hoặc không đếm được thì động từ to be sẽ chia là is/was, ngược lại nếu danh từ là số nhiều thì động từ to be sẽ chia là are/were.
